TYMES TRUST ALERT 23 April 2010 Jane Colby FRSA Executive Director The Young ME Sufferers Trust www.tymestrust.org ====== THE LEARNING COMMITMENT AWARDS AND CELEBRATION ME Awareness Day 2010 ====== On Wednesday May 12, ME Awareness Day, The Young ME Sufferers Trust celebrates our members' educational success and commitment in the face of illness at a Reception and Afternoon Tea from 3.30pm - 5.00pm in The House of Lords. The event is to be hosted by Lord Clement-Jones CBE, Founder Patron of the Trust. It was in the Spring of 2004 that the Lord Clement-Jones hosted the launch of a partnership between the Nisai Virtual Academy and The Young ME Sufferers Trust. Our joint aim was to provide interactive virtual education for young people with ME, a forward-looking initiative which has achieved success beyond all our expectations. Many students who are unable to attend school for other reasons have also benefited from the NVA's courses, which have been funded by the Learning and Skills Council for those over 16 and by Local Education Authorities under that age. Overall, GCSE and A Level grades have equalled or surpassed those of healthy young people in full time education, despite all the complications associated with such a serious illness. The Learning Commitment Awards are now to be presented annually to recognise the great personal effort these young people have made, despite being unable to attend school. We have a limited number of places available at this event for some of our members and their families, and for the professionals who care for and educate them. However, attendance is by invitation only, so if you would like to be present, please email me your name and details as soon as possible, including a full postal address. You can use the Contact Us form at www.tymestrust.org Space permitting, your personal invitation card will be sent to you in order that you may obtain admittance to the House. You may also reply by post to: Learning Commitment Awards, Tymes Trust, PO Box 4347, Stock, Essex, CM4 9TE. Please be sure to bring your personal invitation card with you on the day. We are all looking forward to this enjoyable occasion. More news soon.
