Partner Group hosts talk by Jane Colby ====== In September, the Worcester ME Support Group hosts a talk by Jane Colby entitled "ME and Viruses - Should We Be Worried?" Jane will focus on new evidence revealed in The Colby Report and we encourage you to come along and ask questions. Jane is author of "ME - The New Plague" (1996) which was featured on "Tonight with Adam Boulton". Those of you who have read it will know that in the book she concentrated on the relationship between ME and poliomyelitis, the much dreaded viral disease that struck so many children in the twentieth century, before a vaccine was developed. It has been fashionable to ignore the viral basis for classic ME (as opposed to the nebulous Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, or even chronic fatigue, within which ME is now trapped). Jane describes what has been happening as "a scandal of international proportions". In this talk, Jane concentrates on new data she has collected for The Colby Report, which illuminates the links between ME and common viruses that spread in and beyond schools - like swine flu. It is not well-known that in the 1980s there was a six-year pandemic of ME. Was an antiviral developed? Did we all receive a vaccination? Were schools closed in an attempt to stop the spread? No, because it was not taken seriously. The children went through terrible attempts to rehabilitate them from what was considered a psychological problem, and the adults - well, they had "yuppie flu" didn't they? Some wag in the press gave this scourge of children a derogatory name it has hardly shaken off today. Come and join us for what promises to be a fascinating session. Jane will also address specific problems of young people with ME. As a former head teacher, education that really works for them is a key area she can advise on.
